Business Rules are used to automate routine operations. To create a Business Rule, the Business Rule Creation Wizard is used.
The Wizard comprises four steps:
Step 1: General InformationRule Name field:
Type the name for the new Business Rule.
Rule Description field:
Type optional description for the new Business Rule.
Enabled check box:
Deselect if you want the new Business Rule to be disabled after its creation. If this check box is selected, the Business Rule will be effective once created.
Next button:
Click to go to the next page of the wizard.
Cancel button:
Click to exit without saving any changes.
Step 2: Triggering OperationOn this page, you specify the operation the execution of which will trigger the new Business Rule.
Object Type list:
Select the type of objects, operation on which will trigger the new Business Rule.
Show all object types check box:
Select to display all possible types of objects.
Launch this Rule Before/After radio button:
Select if the actions executed by the new Business Rule are performed before or after the triggering operation.
Operation list:
Select the operation that will trigger the new Business Rule. The list of available operations depends on the selected object type and Before/After choice.
Back button:
Click to come back to the previous page of the wizard.
Next button:
Click to go to the next page of the wizard.
Cancel button:
Click to exit without saving any changes.
Step 3: Rule ActionsOn this page, you specify actions the new Business Rule will execute when the triggering operation is performed. Actions are united in sets comprising one or more actions. For each set you can specify conditions combined by AND/OR logical operators. Actions in a set are only executed if the conditions specified for this set are met.
Actions and Conditions control:
This control allows you to specify which actions and on which conditions the new Business Rule will execute.
Click
Add Action to add the first action.
To add other actions to this set, select the set and click the
icon located in the top left corner of the selected set or right-click the set you need and select
Add Action from the context menu.
To add conditions to this set, select the set and click the
icon located
in the top left corner of the selected set or right-click the set you need and select
Add Condition from the context menu.
If you add two or more conditions, they are combined by AND/OR operator. If conditions are combined by AND operator, the actions are executed when all conditions are met. And if conditions are combined by OR operator, the actions are executed if at least one condition is met. To change the operator, just click it.
Actions in a set are executed sequentially according to their order in the set. Click
Move Up or
Move Down icon to move the selected action up or down in the chain of execution (some actions
cannot be moved).
To edit an action, right-click the action you need and select Edit Action from the context menu.
To edit a condition, right-click the condition you need and select Edit Condition from the context menu.
To delete an action or condition from a set, select it and click the
icon located in the top
left corner of the selected set or right-click the action or condition you need and select
Delete Action or
Delete Condition from the context menu.
To delete the whole set of actions and conditions, select this set and click the
icon located in the top left corner of the selected set or right-click the set you need and select
Delete Current Set from the context menu.
To create a new set of actions and conditions, click
Add action to a new set below.
Sets of actions and conditions are executed in a sequential order. To change the order of their execution,
select the set you need (make sure no action or condition is selected), and click
Move Up
or
Move Down icon below.
Back button:
Click to come back to the previous page of the wizard.
Next button:
Click to go to the next page of the wizard.
Cancel button:
Click to exit without saving any changes.
Step 4: Activity ScopeOn this page, you specify the objects for which the new Business Rule will be effective. The Business Rule is only launched when the triggering operation is performed on the objects included in the activity scope of this Rule.
Assignments list:
Displays assignments of the new Business Rule. Each assignment has the following components:
icon. To modify this parameter, double-click the assignment you need and
select or deselect the Exclude the selection check box.
Add button:
Click to add new assignment to the Assignments list.
Edit button:
Click to modify the assignment options for the assignment selected in the Assignments list.
Delete button:
Click to delete the assignments selected in the Assignments list.
Back button:
Click to come back to the previous page of the wizard.
Finish button:
Click to complete the wizard.
Cancel button:
Click to exit without saving any changes.
