Rule-based automation is a key principle that Adaxes introduces to simplify managing your directory. One of the most common scenarios where it can be applied is user onboarding.
Adaxes can reduce the number of steps needed to provision user accounts in Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange, Microsoft 365, and other systems by automatically executing all the operations required to get a new user going.
Here is how it works. When a new employee is hired, all you need to do is create a user account in your directory, and Adaxes will then automatically do everything else. It can add the account to the right groups, create and configure an Exchange mailbox, activate a Microsoft 365 account and assign licenses, send a welcome email to the user, notify the manager about the new arrival, execute a PowerShell script, etc. As you can see, the automation capabilities are almost limitless.
It is also worth noting that Adaxes can take context into account. The onboarding procedures may vary depending on the new user's job title, department, office, or any other parameter. Every account gets configured according to the exact needs of the user they are created for.
To implement such a scenario in Adaxes, you can use automated workflows called business rules. They enable you to execute various actions before or after certain events in your directory.
A business rule that triggers after creating a user is the primary starting point for all user provisioning automation. Simply add all the onboarding business logic to such a rule, i.e. all the actions that must be executed and the conditions they must follow. Once done, you are good to go.

When user provisioning is automated, the process becomes so simple that it no longer requires advanced IT skills or elevated permissions to operate. This means that it can be safely delegated to non-technical users like HR managers. Instead of submitting requests to IT every time an account needs to be set up for a new hire, Adaxes enables these users to kick-start the onboarding process via the Web Interface.
The Web interface is fully customizable. It allows you to provide non-technical users with a simple and clean UI that leaves no room for any mistakes. Your user creation process can be simplified to a web form, where an HR manager has to fill in basic user details and click Finish. After that Adaxes will jump into the game and fully provisions the new account according to the rules you defined.

If you need to have more control when delegating user creation, Adaxes allows you to add an approval step to the procedure. For example, when a member of the HR team creates a new user, the operation can be sent for approval to a responsible employee e.g. the new user's manager. Only after they verify that all the details are correct and approve the request, Adaxes will proceed with the actual account creation.

Bulk user provisioning
Automation can also be applied when creating new accounts in bulk. For instance, Adaxes can automatically import new users from a CSV file, which is generated by your HR system. Once new users are imported to your directory, the same automation rules will be triggered. Every account will be properly provisioned and your users won't have to lift a finger.

Approvals can also be used for automatic user import. The same principle applies. Only approved accounts will be provisioned, and the rest will be discarded by Adaxes.
