I have a business rule that creates the home directory after user creation. It is set to Inherit parent directory permissions. Everything works fine however it also adds a permission for the Adaxes service account to the home directory.

So if the Adaxes admin account is AdaxAdmin and the user is TestJ , both TestJ and AdaxAdmin have full permissions the subsequent H drive.

why is this?

Hello,

This behavior is by design. Windows grants the Adaxes service account permissions for the directory as the directory is created by the Adaxes service. Also, these permissions will be necessary in the future, for example, to delete the user's home directory during the deprovisioning process.
