Hi, we're receiving the below error when trying to add SMTP addresses to Office365 mailboxes from Adaxes. I've raised a ticket with support, but thought I'd ask here as well.

I've no idea when this started happening, but we could still create new mailboxes last week as I personally created one.

Error: An Azure Active Directory call was made to keep object in sync between Azure Active Directory and Exchange Online. However, it failed. Detailed error message: Unable to update the specified properties for on-premises mastered Directory Sync objects or objects currently undergoing migration. The issue may be transient and please retry a couple of minutes later. If issue persists, please see exception members for more information.

Any help would be great. Thanks Gary

Hello!

As per our check, the issue occurs because dual-write is enabled in your Microsoft 365 (former Office 365) tenant. For details have a look at the following Microsoft article: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/exchange-online-improvements-to-accelerate-replication-of/ba-p/837218. The issue is on Microsoft side. According to our experience this is not the first time the issue occurs and most probably it will be fixed in a few days.

As a workaround for now, you can make changes on-premises. The changes will then be replicated to Exchange Online.

Hello!

It turns out that the new behavior released by Microsoft is permanent. We fixed the issue and released updates for the following Adaxes versions: 2018.2, 2019.1 and 2019.2. If you are using one of the specified versions, you can download the update and reinstall Adaxes. For information on how to upgrade Adaxes, have a look at the Upgrade section of the Installation Guide: https://www.adaxes.com/resources/releasenotes/2019.2/InstNotes.htm#upgrade. The updates are available by the following links:

If you are using Adaxes 2018.1 or earlier, to remedy the issue you need to upgrade to one of the versions specified above. Before upgrading, we recommend you to check whether your current license can be used with the required version. To check whether your license can be used with the latest version, have a look at the following help article: https://www.adaxes.com/help/?HowDoI.ManageService.CheckForUpdates.html. If you are planning to upgrade to version 2018.2 or 2019.1, to check whether your current license can be used with the required version, please, contact your Account Manager at sales[at]softerra.com, they will assist you.

Can you give more detail what behaviour is changed at MS Side? Did MS fixed the issue from backend ?

Hello!

Can you give more detail what behaviour is changed at MS Side?

Microsoft enabled the dual-write feature and it changed the exceptions expected by Adaxes which cause the previously described issue. Previously, Microsoft enabled the feature and after a period of time disabled it. We received a confirmation from Microsoft that the new exceptions are permanent and we released the updates that take changes into account.

Did MS fixed the issue from backend ?

No, Microsoft did not fix anything, they just confirmed that the dual-write feature and new exceptions are permanent.
