Deprecation of remote PowerShell (RPS) in Exchange Online

Microsoft is actively deprecating the RPS protocol in Exchange Online PowerShell. If you encounter issues with viewing the properties of Exchange Online mailboxes in Adaxes, it could be because Microsoft has disabled RPS in your tenant.

The most typical error messages are:

  • The operation couldn't be performed because object '<User>' couldn't be found on '<Domain Controller>'
  • Unable to connect to Exchange Online. The WS-Management service cannot process the request because the XML is invalid.

Older Adaxes versions relied on RPS to perform operations in Exchange Online. To continue using the Exchange Online features in Adaxes, you need to update to a newer version that relies on the Exchange Online Management V3 PowerShell module instead of RPS. Adaxes uses the EXOV3 module starting from the following versions:

  • Adaxes 2020.1 Update 8 - build 3.13.21404
  • Adaxes 2021.1 Update 7 - build 3.14.21404
  • Adaxes 2023 Update 1 - build 3.15.21404
  • Adaxes 2023.2 - build 3.16.21408
